Services

Buff and wax,
and the rest of the work.

Buff and wax is the heart of what we do. The other services below are how we keep your boat looking right between the big jobs. Every quote is based on what your boat actually needs, not a fixed package.

Buff & wax.

The signature service. We compound the hull to cut oxidation and surface defects, polish to bring the depth and color back, then seal it with a hand-applied marine wax.

This is what most boats actually need. After a season on the water, gelcoat goes flat, loses its color, and starts to chalk. A proper buff and wax brings it all back. On heavily oxidized hulls we add a wet-sand step before compounding, when needed and only when needed.

Best for: most boats most of the time. If your hull has lost its shine, this is the service.

Wash & wax

Full exterior wash followed by a hand-applied marine wax. The lighter detail, for hulls already in good shape that just need a refresh and a layer of protection.

Best for: boats kept covered, recently detailed boats, mid-season refresh.

03

Maintenance wash

Recurring exterior wash with pH-neutral marine soap, bow to stern. No wax, no compound. Just a clean boat, regularly. Set it up as a one-off or on a season schedule.

Best for: keeping your detail looking right all season.

04

Spring cleanup

Pull the cover, full exterior wash, topside wipe-down, glass and gauges cleaned. Gets the boat presentable and ready for the first day on the water without committing to a full detail.

Best for: getting the season started. Pair with a buff and wax if the hull needs more.

05

Topside & interior cleaning

Every surface above the waterline. Vinyl, carpet, console, gauges, glass, plastics. Cleaned, conditioned, and brought back. Pairs with any of the exterior services.

Best for: a full reset, or topside-only when the hull is already in good shape.

06

Long-term protection

Marine wax or synthetic sealant applied as a standalone visit. Extends the life of a previous detail and shields against sun, water spotting, and a hard PNW season.

Best for: boats that were recently detailed and need a mid-season top-up.

What's actually in the work

Inside a buff & wax.

Every job is different but the sequence is the same. Some steps get more time, some less. None get skipped if the hull needs them.

Step 01

Inspect

Walk the hull in good light. Run a microfiber across the surface to read the condition. Decide what the boat actually needs.

Step 02

Wash & prep

Bow-to-stern wash with pH-neutral marine soap. Mask off the waterline and anything that doesn't get touched.

Step 03

Sand (when needed)

For heavy oxidation or deeper gelcoat defects, a wet-sand step before compounding. Multi-grit, carefully. Only used when the hull actually needs it.

Step 04

Compound

Cutting compound with the right pad and pressure. Removes oxidation, surface defects, and brings the original color back.

Step 05

Polish

Finishing polish to remove the micro-marring the compound leaves behind and bring the surface to a clean, deep gloss.

Step 06

Wax & seal

Hand-applied marine wax in thin, even passes. Locks the finish in and shields against sun, water spotting, and the season.

Step 07

Final walk

Final inspection in direct sun. Photos sent. If something isn't right we come back to it before we leave.

How it goes

Mobile only. We come to the boat.

Step 01

Tell us about it

Make, length, where it lives, what it needs. A few photos help. Quick form or a call, whichever's easier.

Step 02

Honest quote and date

A real number based on the boat, not a fixed package. A day on the calendar that works for you.

Step 03

We work the boat

Hand-finished, on site. Progress photos along the way so you see what the gelcoat is actually doing.

Common questions

Straight answers.

What does mobile mean? Do I have to bring the boat to you?

No. Mobile means we come to the boat. Driveway, marina slip, dry stack, storage lot. Wherever it lives. There is no drop-off.

Where do you work?

Across the greater Spokane and Coeur d'Alene region: Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, Sandpoint, and Priest River. A little outside that radius? Ask anyway.

How do I get a quote?

Send make, length, where the boat lives, what it needs, and a few photos if you can. Quote comes back fast. Text is fastest. (509) 938-4899 or david@spokaneboatdetail.com.

What's the difference between Wash & Wax and Buff & Wax?

Wash and wax is for hulls already in good shape that just need a refresh: clean it, hand-wax it, done. Buff and wax is the workhorse: we add compound and polish to actually correct the surface before waxing. If your gelcoat is faded, chalky, or has lost its depth, you want buff and wax.

How long does a detail take?

It varies with size and condition. We give you a real estimate when we quote, and we keep you posted as the work goes.

Do you do bottom paint?

Yes, on request. It's not part of the standard menu, but if you need it, mention it when you reach out and we'll work it into the quote.
